Dear Parents,

Your child is about to start unit 8. The topic of this unit is Matter. In this unit, your child will:

·learn to recognise the characteristics of the three states of matter

·learn to differentiate between physical and chemical changes

·learn to classify mixtures as heterogeneous or homogeneous

·learn to identify some properties of materials and classify some materials according to their properties

·learn to classify materials as being of plant, animal or mineral origin

·learn to describe how paper is manufactured

·learn to recognise the importance of the three Rs: reduce, reuse, and recycle

·learn to listen to, read and understand a story about recycling

·learn to write a simple text about materials around me

Additionally in this unit, your child will investigate chemical changes as well as homogeneous and heterogeneous substances.
