Your child is learning unit 3 of their Science coursebook Macmillan Natural and Social Science 3.
The topic of this unit is “We can move”. In this unit, your child will:
· learn to identify parts of the body
· learn to identify parts of the locomotor system and its functions
· learn to identify bones, muscles and joints; their characteristics and functions
· learn to identify two functions of the skeleton
· learn to differentiate between and identify flat, short and long bones
· learn to differentiate between and identify flexible, semi-flexible and fixed joints
· learn to classify bones into the three main sections of the body (head, torso or limbs)
· learn to recognise the characteristics of muscles, differentiate between voluntary and involuntary.
· learn to identify which body parts and bones are related to which muscles
· learn the importance of looking after our bodies
· learn to listen to, read and understand a story about a sports injury
· learn to write a simple healthy eating diary
Additionally in this unit, your child will investigate the effects of calcium on our bones.
