SCIENCE UNIT 4: PLANTS


Dear Parents,

Your child is about to start unit 4. The topic of this unit is Plants. In this unit, your child will

·               learn to identify the male and female reproductive organs in a flower
·               learn to understand how pollination occurs in flowering plants
·               learn to understand animal and wind pollination 
·               learn to understand plant fertilisation
·               learn to understand how plants make their own food through photosynthesis
·               learn to listen to, read and understand a story about bees
·               learn to write a simple text about pollination

Additionally in this unit, your child will investigate how photosynthesis works.

SCIENCE UNIT 3: ANIMALS


Dear Parents:

In this unit your child is learning about Animals. Your child will:

·learn to understand that animals can be classified according to different criteria and recognises some of these criteria
·learn to identify some mammals and their characteristics
·learn to identify some birds and their characteristics
·learn to identify some more characteristics of fish and amphibians and understands metamorphosis
·learn to classify invertebrates into groups and identify some of their characteristics
·learn to identify some reptiles and their characteristics
·learn to listen to, read and understand a story about invertebrates
·learn to write a simple text about animals in your environment

Additionally in this unit, your child will investigate animals that live in the local area.

COUNTRIES AND NATIONALITIES GAMES






ENGLISH UNIT 2: PEOPLE AND COUNTRIES

Dear Parents,

Your child is learning about countries. In this unit your child will learn how to ask and talk about where people are from and which languages they speak.

In Unit 2 your child will learn about why people move to a foreign country and ways to help a new child at school. Your child will also learn about the Wild West and children in Britain whose families originally come from other countries. They will also play a game to practise word stress in English.

In this unit your child will have the opportunity to read and write questions and answers about where people are from, where they live now and which languages they speak. Your child will also read short texts about where children and their families are from and write a short text about their own family, following a model.

Your child already started unit 2 of their Science coursebook. The topic of this unit is Our body. In this unit, your child will

·                learn to identify the parts of the circulatory system and how it works
·                learn to identify the parts of the respiratory system and how it works
·                learn to differentiate between and identify the male and female reproductive organs and how they    work
·                learn to recognise the stages of development of a human baby in the uterus and childbirth
·                learn to listen to, read and understand a story about twins
·                learn to write a simple text about growing up

Additionally in this unit, your child will investigate how the heart works and how we breathe. Look at the Picture dictionary on pages 152 and 153 of the Pupil’s Book together.

The protagonists of our book, Emily, Jack and Sam are going to be time travelers and each unit will lead us to a different era. In the first unit traveling to the time of the Vikings. 


The Vikings were sailors and soldiers. 
They lived in the north of Europe.
The Vikings were tall, fair and strong.
They used helmets, shields and swords.
They used long, wooden boats with square sails. 
In the 9th century the Vikings started to look for new land. 
They were the first people from Europe to discover America.
